IRT

Good news for Grenoble! The "Institut de Recherche Technologique (IRT) NanoElectronique" project is one of the six national projects selected by the French government for funding within the IRT programme in the Grand Emprunt scheme. ESRF and ILL’s characterisation Technology Platform will be a direct beneficiary.

The IRT NanoElectronique will provide high quality characterisation facilities for R&D in three main domains: 3-D assembly, silicon nanophotonics and liaison technologies. Grenoble's IRT has been boosted by MINATEC's success and the momentum of the GIANT programme. There are three dimensions to the project: Core Technology (310M€), Valorisation (70M€) and Training (50M€). Being awarded the label IRT confirms the progress made in this project which involves cooperation between the private and public sectors, with the creation of a new model for technological innovation.

The IRT project involves 460M€ of investment over a ten-year period, with 50% finance from the private sector.

For the ESRF and ILL this means significant new funding for the Technology Platform–Grenoble (TP-G) which will be dedicated to the characterisation of a wide range of advanced industrial materials and processes, and will have a strong impact on the core sciences and technologies of the NanoElectronique IRT programme itself. The TP-G equipment and team, funded from the IRT, will be housed in the site’s new Science Building to be delivered in 2013.

In the spirit of GIANT, the TP-G brings together the large-scale facilities of ILL, ESRF, the CEA-Grenoble Platform for Nanocharacterisation and the CNRS-Grenoble extreme conditions facilities in the Institute Louis Néel.
