North-west Grenoble is expanding fast, including our own Presqu'île scientifique with new housing going up on the Cambridge sector, the extension of Phelma, the new Schneider buildings and the new Crédit Agricole HQ.
With the local road system already near saturation, action will have to be taken to make sure traffic doesn't grind to a complete standstill. The Grenoble Presqu'Île inter-company transport plan (PDIE) is working on new alternatives to solo-motoring, and now there's another idea - the Metrocâble!
The Metro is investigating the option of a cable link between Fontaine La Poya and St Martin le Vinoux, with a stop on the Place de la Résistance. The Metrocâble would link up with the A, B and E tramlines. It would help cross both the Drac and the Isère rivers, as well as the two motorways and the railway, at a reasonable cost.
The Metro website has all the details if you are interested: http://www.lametro.fr/661-transport-par-cable.htm
Please note that there is a public enquiry from 5 October to 13 November, and that's an opportunity to have your say on the project. The full dossier on the project can be found here. There will also be workshops for feedback from the public (14/10, 3/11, 4/11) and a chance to vote electronically.
So It's up to you now!
