Settling the bill

Before enjoying your first meal, make sure you have an electronic canteen card as the cashiers at the till will not accept cash or credit cards.

The pre-charged canteen cards ensure a quick and smooth checkout after you have chosen your meal and allow to cater for different types of restaurant subsidies. For the latter reason, the "price" of each food item in the restaurant is not expressed in Euros but in points.

The first charge of your card and subsequent recharges are possible at the reception in the restaurant lobby, during lunch hours. Accepted methods of payment are cash, French cheques and major international credit cards. On the day of departure, the amount left on your card will be reimbursed when you return it except for users who have received a pre-charged card upon arrival.

During evening and weekend services, the reception desk is closed and you may settle your bill with cash or by credit card at the checkout desk.

How will I get a canteen card?

ESRF

  • If I am a user?

Users must request a canteen card in advance by marking the request box on the form A.

Those whose travel and accomodation costs are covered by the ESRF will receive the card along with instructions upon  arrival. The card will have been pre-charged with a number of points corresponding to the length of their planned user visit.

Other users will receive an "empty" canteen card upon arrival. They need to charge the card at the restaurant reception before their first meal.

  • If I am a new staff member, trainee or student?

Newly arriving staff members, trainees and students will receive a canteen card form to complete on their first day of work. They should hand over the completed form to the cashier at the restaurant reception and will in turn receive a visitor's canteen card until the permanent card is ready the following day. The visitor's card should be charged with 25-30 points, enough for the meal on the first day.

  • If I am a guest visiting the site, a candidate invited for an interview, a participant in an event or comparable?

Visitors are given a visitor's canteen card by either the cashier of the restaurant or the inviting entity. Candidates who are accommodated on site receive it upon arrival. All visitors must charge their card at the restaurant reception with an amount of points of their choice, as the cards they receive are not pre-charged.
